Why does setting up a control chart improve motivation?

When people are involved in monitoring a control chart of a Critical Success Factor that they can control locally, the process creates both the positive and negative feedback that increases motivation and learning.

Anyone who has set up team-charts will be able to tell you how powerful they can be in increasing motivation by focusing the team on a common goal.

However, this is only achieved when you create the "perceived need" in the team to regularly fill in the chart and ensure that it is accurate.
